Everybody has a story. Most are better after midnight.
The Jolly Roger has been standing near the harbour for longer than most people remember.
Nobody agrees on exactly when it opened.
Nobody agrees on who originally owned it.
And nobody seems particularly interested in investigating either question.
The pub has survived fires, economic decline, changing owners and changing times.
Its walls have heard arguments, confessions, deals and lies.
Sailors drank here.
Truck drivers stopped here.
Dock workers came after their shifts.
Criminals came because everyone else did.
And sometimes people came simply because they needed somewhere to sit until morning.
The Jolly Roger is one of the few places in Kilharbour where almost everyone eventually crosses paths.
Which makes it a very good place to learn something.
Or to make sure nobody learns anything about you.
