Who We Are

Principles, Content & Shared Responsibility

Kilharbour is a fictional, community-driven narrative project exploring human behaviour, social tensions and moral choices, primarily through virtual worlds such as Second Life. It combines storytelling, roleplay, fictional locations and characters to explore situations that may be uncomfortable, controversial or open to interpretation.

Fiction, Themes & Language

Kilharbour may feature fictional crime, corruption, adult themes, offensive language, conflict and morally ambiguous situations as part of its narrative and roleplay. The presence of such material does not imply endorsement of the conduct depicted.

The project does not promote real-world criminal activity, violence or unlawful behaviour. Its purpose is to encourage imagination, open discussion and the exploration of choices and consequences through fiction.

Openness & Interpretation

Kilharbour is intended for a mature audience. Visitors are encouraged to approach its stories with an open mind, to distinguish fictional representation from real-world conduct, and to question their own assumptions.

Not every character, conversation or situation is intended to be comfortable or agreeable. Disagreement is welcome; respectful participation is expected.

Like a novel, Kilharbour does not require its readers to approve of its characters or their actions. It invites them to consider the story and reach their own conclusions.

Shared Responsibility

Participation is voluntary. Members remain responsible for their own contributions, conduct and compliance with applicable laws and platform rules.

The project does not assume that every contribution reflects its creators’ views or values. Equally, describing something as roleplay does not automatically make every action or publication acceptable.

The administration may moderate, restrict or remove content or participation where reasonably necessary to maintain the project’s narrative purpose, protect participants, address abuse or comply with applicable obligations.

Moderation decisions may consider context, intent and impact. No participant is entitled to unrestricted publication or participation.

Privacy & Boundaries

Participants should respect the privacy of others. Personal information, private communications and real-world identities must not be exposed or misused without appropriate permission.

Fictional scenarios must not be used as an excuse to harass, threaten, intimidate or target real people. The distinction between a character and the person portraying that character must be respected.

Second Life & Platform Rules

All Kilharbour regions and activities within Second Life must comply with Linden Lab’s applicable policies, including its rules for Adult-rated regions and content. These platform requirements take precedence over any fictional narrative or roleplay arrangement.

Stories, characters and literary extensions of Kilharbour may explore themes that are controversial or morally ambiguous. However, fictional context does not exempt participants from the rules governing conduct and content within Second Life.

Participants are responsible for understanding and complying with the platform’s requirements. Kilharbour’s own moderation may impose additional restrictions where necessary to preserve the project’s purpose and the safety of its community.

For information about how Linden Lab handles personal information, please consult its Privacy Policy. This policy governs Linden Lab’s handling of personal information within its services; it does not replace Kilharbour’s own privacy obligations for information collected through this website.

A Final Word

We do not undertake to police every opinion, dictate every interpretation or decide how everyone should live their lives.

To borrow a little harbour-side humour: we are not responsible for how you cut your lawn, but we reserve the right to keep our harbour in order.

Kilharbour is a fictional space for stories, roleplay and the exploration of difficult questions. Openness requires room for disagreement, but it also requires personal responsibility.

Enter with an open mind. Play your part. Respect the people behind the characters.
